Colca Canyon (Arequipa, Peru) - Day 3

Colca Canyon (Arequipa, Peru) - Day 3

Since we heard it only took about 3 hours to get back into town, we took our sweet time in the morning and didn't start until about 8:30am, which was a huge mistake. The sun was already high up and caught up to us pretty early on in the trek. Before leaving, I asked Lach if we should get some snacks since we didn't have anymore. He said that 3 hours should be fine without food but this was 3 hours straight up hill. It was hot, we didn't have any food (I gave half my breakfast to Babe), and barely enough water for the three of us. The last 45 minutes were pretty torturous. I was getting lightheaded from not having enough food/sugar in my system. I was fighting to keep my eyes open so that I wouldn't faint. It got that bad. I felt even worse for being a bitch to Lach. I was just so concentrated on trying to get back into town to get some food, I snapped at him a few times without meaning to. Sorry Lach!! Poor Babe was worried for me too. That cutie! He would whine when we saw me stop or slow down because he could sense something was wrong.

Finally we got to the very top, but it was another 10 mins into town. I dragged my feet until the first corner store. I got a sneakers bar and some cake. Then I felt completely better and good as new! That was a bit dangerous. We went back into the main plaza and shard a pizza for lunch to wait for the next bus to Chivey then Arequipa. We weren't sure how far back Will and Carla were and we had no way of contacting them. After we ate, we got on the 1 o'clock bus that was a small 12 person bus that they stuffed about 30 people on. There was no way we were going to take that all the way back to Arequipa, another 3 hours. So we got off in Chivey, contemplated weather or not to head to the hot springs but decided against it because we wouldn't have had enough time and we needed to get back to Arequipa to take the bus that night to Cusco. So we wanted in the bus terminal a a bit and got on the bus ticket to Arequipa that we hoped Will and Carla would be on. We were a bit scared they wouldn't make the 2pm bus out of Copaconde because the next one was at 10pm. When we walked on, the first person we saw was Will and we all hugged in joy. Yeah sounds a bit cheesy but Lach and I were actually scared they wouldn't have made it. Now another 3 hours to get back to Arequipa.
